humans are a screwed up bunch of people. we abhor beggars. got hands got legs shud go work. lets start from those handless legless ones.
bugis outside got one like this. selling toto tickets outside the temple. he got robbed once. doesnt matter. hes working. everyone's buying.
the bitch part is those with hand and legs and working but no one wanna patronize. i walked past this wheelchair bound lady just coz she was selling tissues at 3 for a dollar and i dont nd e tissue. stupid huh. are we confusing charity with business? when shopping, when we dun wan we dun buy. thats business. if ur product sucks or ur price too high we wun buy. but this case the woman is doing it for her survival. those ahma and ahpek also. worse, some ppl bring out a blind man just to make ppl buy. i admit, smtmes i just shrug them away coz its overpriced and i dun nd to buy. but this is stupid. where did charity go?
another eg is from the show there is this woman. she is kinda autistic. but she wanna work. so she applied for this busker license. but got rejected coz her balloon folding skills not up to a busker's level. shud we classify her under those that nd charity? she is taking care of her grandma and her 2 autistic children. grandma those kind shit on bed pee on bed. and she cant work. sell tissue oso no one wan buy. try for higher lvl skills also not accepted. we think got hand and leg shud work. but when really get to work, they only given lowest of jobs. which ppl oso dun bother.
another eg. an old lady at lido. she selling those lil stuff. mixed in fact. just a plastic bag. inside got maggie mee. umbrella. soft toys. yet everyone walked past her becoz they dun nd the stuff. how? and we'd rather pay those fucking youngsters who sell fake LV along the street.
what exactly are we looking for? we just want things to be idealistic but it cannot work out that way. hate beggars, but dun "donate" when they are actually selling stuff. . in e end i also walk back and put a dollar coin in her hand. should i have taken her tissue? coz she is doing business. but to me its charity. but to her, i could be not respecting her dignity in selling tissues. where exactly is the point of compromise? sigh.
would u buy the tissue? or give her the money? or walk by coz u didnt want the tissue either coz u didnt want it or its too ex?

HOO HAA!
literally making a big hoo haa. i got attachment la! till 6pm everyday! big hoohaa enough?.
anyway. i am working at the necessary stage. its this non profit company that dabbles in arts industry, specifically the theatre. i am in helping out in administration. lol.
anyway, today, they had this tea session. a lil tea party just to get tgt everyone. lol. literally everyone. and its only like 10. quite a small company.
anyway. the artistic director
dun worry abt e title. hes a nice man. lol. kinda initiated this chat la. like we all intro. it was really interesting. everyone spoke in proper english. and its quite dramatized too. like all e high and low sounds. they will try imitate voices of ppl scolding them kinda thing. its all very, interesting. nvr had this kinda session b4. words were quite fluid. and the ppl dere are actually extremely educated.
WHAT REALLY STUCK ME WAS THAT they all had degrees. 3 had NUS degrees. but those are e working ones. the new interns are studying at lasalle. den their parents were saying how the arts suck and how the children are a waste, doing e arts.
"u can speak so well why dont go be a lawyer?! waste my money go study at lasalle."
or things like
u got a degree in biology and ur doing arts?! u wasted half a million dollars!
*interns side* it just feels so depressing. to know ur parents dun really support the arts. parents really dunt know whats going on in e arts scene. and worse, if siblings oso challenge. yea yea u cant earn a lot from being in e arts. so realistic. den again, can not be not realistic. but somehow, they are so passionate abt what they are doing! and quite determined. although quite on their own.its really amazing.
but cannot discount the fact that the parents still give them their pocket allowance la.so they are still not surviving on their own with e arts. so this kinda determination cannot really measure much. but they are so fun! the way they talk. so drama. so funny. but it sucks la. to do smth u love but its also smth a lot of ppl disapproves. esp ur family. really. some ppl have no idea how much a SIMPLE disapproval from close frens and family can do. really no idea at all.
but i am there for e experience anyway. to see more of e world. from more perspectives. and i think today, was a great day. i saw thru the eyes of ppl who are struggling in the arts industry. =)
